London has a diverse range of peoples and cultures, and more than 300 languages are spoken within its boundaries. London had topped 9 million people in 2020.
London is home to numerous museums, galleries, libraries, sporting events and other cultural institutions, including the British Museum, National Gallery, Tate Modern, British Library and 40 West End theaters.
London’s transportation system is also renowned, and the London Underground is the oldest underground railway network in the world.
Chris Shia
Chris has several years’ worth of experience in international education and support. Before joining AIFS, Chris worked in student resident life for many years. Growing up in Ealing, West London, Chris has studied abroad on an exchange to the University of North Texas and lived abroad in Toronto, Canada. Chris holds an undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Surrey and a Masters in Urban Planning from University College London. Traveling around the world is something that Chris really enjoys, and Chris has been to over 36 countries around the world ranging from Bosnia to Japan. You can find Chris exploring and learning about different neighborhoods in London on the weekend and is always on the lookout for “hidden gems” that few people know about including local restaurants, markets, nightlife and experiences. Chris’s big passion is watching football and Chris supports the mighty Tottenham Hotspur and attends matches whenever possible. AIFS staff arrange a rich variety of activities to introduce students to life in the United Kingdom. There is an additional fee for many of these activities, but they offer an inexpensive way to experience London’s exciting cultural life and to see other parts of Britain. Besides arranged activities, there is always a wide range of events taking place in and around London, concerts, theater in the parks and much, much more. Information on these events will be made available to students upon arrival in London.
At the University of Westminster students have access to 24-hour libraries, state-of-the-art science laboratories, advanced IT services, online learning resources, art, design, film and TV studios, world-class audio recording studios, galleries, sports and recreational facilities, as well as one of the few Bloomberg Financial Markets Suites in the UK.
Their dedicated architecture, art and design spaces include specialist workshops for wood, metal, molding, casting, photography and ceramics, and a new cutting-edge digital Fabrication Laboratory that offers a suite of 3D printers and laser cutters.
The University of Westminster Student Union also offer a range of clubs and societies for students giving the chance to follow your interests, try out new hobbies and meet local students. Student can also access on campus gym facilities.

This webinar will feature AIFS alum Ryan Dooley who studied abroad in Grenoble, France and now is the Director of the Miami Passport Agency for the US State Department. Dooley has traveled to more than 60 countries in his current position and will share opportunities available to students before and after graduation with the US State Department.
This webinar will focus on three of the most popular ways in which you can go abroad again: to volunteer, to work and for graduate school. Information on logistics to consider, resources on selecting a program and funding opportunities will be discussed.

Washington, D.C., is a national center for the arts. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts is home to the National Symphony Orchestra, the Washington National Opera, and the Washington Ballet. The District is an important center for indie culture and music in the United States. AIFS Abroad provides excellent accommodations, activities, resources, and staff to help interns learn about and integrate into your host community.
Internet access is included in all AIFS housing in Sydney.
With its excellent beaches and year-round mild weather, Sydney is the perfect place to try surfing, sailing, stand up paddle boarding, and other aquatic activities.
Sydney is the most populous city in Australia with over 4.6 million inhabitants with approximately 28% of the population was born elsewhere. Sydney is a consistently high-ranking world city for quality of life.
The City of Sydney introduced a Sustainable Sydney 2030 program, with various targets planned and a guide on how to reduce energy in homes and offices by 30%. The city also has an “urban forest growth strategy” which aims to increase the tree coverage in the city by planting trees and vegetation to provide cleaner air and create moisture during hot weather, thus lowering city temperatures.
Andrea Hay
Andrea is the Sydney Director of Internships and Study Abroad. Andrea moved to Australia at age 11. After graduating from RMIT in Melbourne, Australia, Andrea moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked at the Australian Embassy and later at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. In her free time, Andrea enjoys running, yoga, traveling, and spending time with her family and 2 year old spoodle.
In addition to day trips and excursions, a cultural calendar of weekly activities and social events is included in your program fee. These activities will include both typical tourist sites and attractions and lesser known visits which take advantage of the expert knowledge of our local AIFS Abroad staff and give you a more authentic and insightful view of life in Australia. Students can select an optional transportation package for all AIFS programs. Students who choose to book their own flights should meet up with group at the program location and will need to make their own ground transportation arrangements.
Below are fees by departure city based on average historical costs and subject to change. If you select this option on your application, the total flight package price will be confirmed in your account 6 months prior to departure. (Program fee is guaranteed.)
